Telling a socially taboo story on screen is a tight walk and many times it just falls into the documentry kind of narrative. Probably that could be the reason why many mainstream filmmakers avoid treading into that path. Still Sujoy Ghosh made an effort to bring that sensitive topic into the racy narrative with "Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh" but unfortunately he was let down by the incoherent screenplay. When a screenplay falters even Aamir Khan also can't save a film (E.g Mangal Pandey), so despite being called as Female Aamir Khan, Vidya couldn't take the film to the winning post single handedly. I tried to watch "Kahaani 2" as a stand alone film but I got to sense the "knot" in midway itself and when it was confirmed that my guess turned out to be right, there was no further interest in watching the rest of the movie. That pretty much sums up where "Kahaani 2" failed. Even though the makers claim the demonetization and the excess baggage that was carried by the fantastic "Kahaani - 2011" as the reasons for its underperformance at the box office, the real reason why you want to rush through Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh was the feeble screenplay despite the noble intentions. Vidya scores fully by outshining everyone else in the cast... No two ways about it, but Vidya alone can't make a mediocre movie success. Hope the actor rediscovers her uncanny knack of selecting deadly scripts, which is missing with her these days. Still there are people who like to watch her on screen and it is the matter of time till she bounces back. My prayers are with her. And.. the social taboo discussed in the movie was... Child abuse by the relatives.
It had been a long unfulfilled dream of visiting Hampi ever since I heard about in my 8th standard and it was finally realised in Feb 2014, when I visited the place along with my kid brother Vaithy. BTW Vaithy is no more a kid because he in the process of producing a kid in next few months. Visiting a historical place will be more enjoyable when you have a companion who is also equally passionate as you.
My parents were Govt. school teachers in Tamilnadu, so like most of the TN Government employees they were also supporters of DMK. Similarly the group we moved around was also their colleagues, so when I grew up I was made to believe that ADMK, the staunch rival of DMK is a "low level" party mainly supported by uneducated / people from lower strata. Most of the political conversations will end up in the personal attacks of MGR and later J. Jayalalitha. When a woman fights her way through the male bastion of politics, there are also assassination of character. So all put together I was looking down Jayalalitha for a long throughout my school days.
This is probably one of my favourite techincal post of all times because this post addresses a requirement whose solution which I had been searching for years. Before I proceed further I would like to tell about OCR to the readers who are not aware of it. We all are familiar with scanning the documents and saving them as PDF / JPG. But we can't edit the document in any word processing software like MS Word or Wordpad. So to edit a scanned document, it has to be converted into "editable" document. Here is where the OCR comes in.
I am a sucker for slice of life movies... especially the movies that are drawn from daily lives and a slow pace appeal me a lot. I believe I am one of the very few souls who enjoyed Karu. Palaniappan's "Pirivom Santhippom", which many people said that they watched the movie on 16X speed. Coming to 'Dear Zindagi', I feel that it is a beautiful movie from Indian cinema in recent times.... feel good, visually appealing yet offering something that you can take home.
It had been exactly a month and three days since that nightmare happened. It was a Friday and supposedly a leisure day as my client side business counterpart, my manager were in leave and I didn't have anything in my work basket. The weather in Sydney where I was on a project was so good, that I left for a casual walk. During the walk, may be to kill time, I called my mother and she said that she hadn't slept the previous night because of her stomach pain. I always keep telling my mother to have complete body checkup at regular intervals, not to take self prescribed medicines and visit a physician when she falls ill. But she never heeded to my words. Since she is a headstrong woman, I too couldn't force her on these issues. So on that day I asked her to visit another hospital without fail.
Today I came across this topic online while browsing through some psychology blogs and found this interesting. Infact I felt more connected to this article and even took a personality test, whose link is at the end of this article followed by my result.

I just knew about RJ Balaji as an RJ and heard more about him during Chennai floods for his philanthropic activities. When we were talking about him in the office, one of my teammate suggested about his movie review for "Kadal" and the way he trolled it. Around the same time I received his Chennai day clip on WhatsApp and was impressed. So I started listening to his reviews from the YouTube clips. I couldn't resist falling for this young man. Whether it is his on the face comments, comedy timings or his Tamil vocabulary or the social awareness that brings out the angst against the society's aberrations... I feel like him mirroring my thoughts completely... almost 100%. It is refreshing to hear someone talking the controversial topics like Porn ban, Corporate appraisal politics, fans rivalry on the prime time air. On seeing him reaching to the lower strata people on humanitarian initiatives, I seriously started liking him immensely. Kudos Balaji.. When I searched for your biography on Wikipedia, I found that your life was so dramatic and I am happy for your success. Thanks for being such a good human being.
Classic.
