My parents were Govt. school teachers in Tamilnadu, so like most of the TN Government employees they were also supporters of DMK. Similarly the group we moved around was also their colleagues, so when I grew up I was made to believe that ADMK, the staunch rival of DMK is a "low level" party mainly supported by uneducated / people from lower strata. Most of the political conversations will end up in the personal attacks of MGR and later J. Jayalalitha. When a woman fights her way through the male bastion of politics, there are also assassination of character. So all put together I was looking down Jayalalitha for a long throughout my school days.

It had been exactly a month and three days since that nightmare happened. It was a Friday and supposedly a leisure day as my client side business counterpart, my manager were in leave and I didn't have anything in my work basket. The weather in Sydney where I was on a project was so good, that I left for a casual walk. During the walk, may be to kill time, I called my mother and she said that she hadn't slept the previous night because of her stomach pain. I always keep telling my mother to have complete body checkup at regular intervals, not to take self prescribed medicines and visit a physician when she falls ill. But she never heeded to my words. Since she is a headstrong woman, I too couldn't force her on these issues. So on that day I asked her to visit another hospital without fail.

Whenever there is a riot, it leaves scars, bitter memories for the people directly affected. Even for those who are not directly involved, it creates some uneasiness in the personal / professional lives. I am referring to the riots and protests that happened in relation to the Cauvery river and Mullai Periyar river issues that had been going on between the states of Tamilnadu, Kerala and Karnataka for long time.

As usual an another conversation with my sister resulted in this new blog. Since we live in different parts of the worl, we don't catch up for long chats over the phone often. But when we both are in a mood to speak, the conversation lasts no less than 30 minutes, which is longer by my standards. When we were speaking last, we were talking about her school friends who discovered her after so many years in the Facebook. The conversation veered to the topic of staying in hometown for good.

Today a conversation with my sister opened up to an interesting topic on making decisions. I always feel that I hadn't been living my life ever instead I am letting my life strings being pulled by my parents' whims and now the future of my kid is influencing my lifestyle. My parents had been able to live their life on their own terms whether the decisions were right or wrong but lived "their life". But I always felt that I am living others' life, not mine. This is the background of this conversation today.

Being a hardcore introvert, I understand the importance of having right friends because they can change the life course of an individual. Even though the world looks down the introverts and advocates extroverts, being an introvert has some real advantages. One of them is that the people who reach to you is serious about you and the relationship cannot be frivolous. I had a just handful of friends throughout my life and everyone is a friend to remember for valid reasons and I acknowledge their valuable presence in my life on this Friendship day.
