Meera JasmineDo you all remember a song "One plus one.." I was raving about, for that my sister had taken the revenge too.... hope you all remember it now. That movie called "Kasthurimaan" was released in Coimbatore after it finished its 100 days run in Kerala. Do you know what its posters read? Meera Jasmine's "Kastoorimaan". I can't stop feeling sorry for all the brains and hardwork that went behind the screen. What if the director happens to be the No.1 screenplay writer of Malayalam cinema & mentor of Meera Jasmine, what if the cameraman is "Minsara Kanavu" fame Venu, what if the editor happens to be the national award winner Sreekar Prasad, who cares two hoots for them... All we wanted is M..E..E..R..A, the one & only meera.

Meera JasmineThe way I went to the movie was hectic. I was to leave to Kottayam for next two days, and board the Chennai train immediately on return to Coimbatore, a Friday is fast nearing, I was not sure whether the movie will sustain for the week two, so I had no other option than straining my eyes and sleep to opt for the second show on the eve of Kottyam visit, a thing I can do only for MEERA.

I was more than satisfied with the movie... movie...? Did I say so? I can't figure out why Malayalam media raved much for a just more than average movie (I think my intellect is less than that of well educated malayali audience)... I got to see more of MEERA, so more than that I can handle for my dreams. I paid only Rs.40 but got more than that.

I saw MEERA in all costumes I wanted to see her docile. Let me start with my favourite girls' dress "Paavadai Chattai with head full of jasmine", skirt & shirts, "Set Mundu", "Kasavu Saree with red blouse, chandanam in the forehead", "Sungadi Sarees", "Paavadai Dhaavani", "typical kerala blouse & lungi", that was the time I realised knowing another language (Malayalam) can be so advantageous Ha! Ha! Ha!. What if you can't understand the dialogues... MEERA's eyes and expressions convey what was supposed to do.

Meera JasmineSpeaking of her expressions.. It is a sheer pleasure to watch MEERA smiling, laughing, dancing, crying but the problem with MEERA is that her magnetic appeal overshadows her expressions. When she cries on screen you can't think Priyamvadha is crying, but can't help thinking how beautifully she cries, what an elegance in the way she her wriths her forehead, how beautifully she kneels down to cry.... that was the moment I realised a major fact about Mallu heroines. All are simple and not so beautiful or glamorous, so their looks doesn't interfere with their performances, but MEERA has a tough time to make the audiences feel fer expressions. In a scene she comes out from the church speaking with Kunchacko Boban, she was looking rich & suave. If you notice carefully she was just wearing a cotton gown with no ornaments. Such is her overshadowing personality. MEERA is not suitable for malayalam cinema, too glamour for real cinema, so I wish to see MEERA more in Tamil & Telugu.

MEERA is expanding her horizons, that she has signed her first Telugu movie opposite to Pawan Kalyan, star of "Toli Prema, Suswagatham, Khushi & Johnny" fame, to be directed by Karunakaran of "Toli Prema" fame. Speaking of "Toli Prema" which translates into "First Love", this movie is one closer to my heart because of the natural depiction of Brother - Sister relation, which is so closer to what I and my sister share. (Appada!! (sigh)... I had managed to butter my sister that she won't write a reply a l a last time)

Coming back to MEERA & Kasthurimaan, I can't resist raving about her onscreen chemistry with the so called Hero "Kunchacko Boban", they were fabulous in three shots, one in traditional kasavu saree, kunchacko lifting her all the way through the sugarcane filed, second is the scene where both dressed in peach green, talking on the upstairs, camera pans from ground towards them, and in the climax where MEERA gives Kunchacko a cold stare accompanied with a sudden turn after she kills her brother-in-law. Besides these I don't remember anything in the story.

Meera JasmineI thought I had seen enough of MEERA, till I watch her romancing Srikanth in "Joot" and in Maniratnam's "Ayudha Ezhuthu", but YEH DIL MAANGE MORE. So I am waiting for her ONAM release "SwapnaKoodu" with same Kunchacko Boban., under the aegis of my favourite director Kamal, with another of my latest heart throbs Prithviraj & BHAVANA MENON, movie shot at Pondicherry located at just 25 kms from my home in Cuddalore, the reasons are more than enough to look forward for this slick flick inspired by "Dil Chahta Hai". I am looking forward to see MEERA matching the vivaciousness of Preity Zinta (according to the previews, MEERA plays the role played by Preity Zinta in Hindi).
