Pondicherry - Where time takes a break.. That was the caption of Tourism and to an extent it is true also. Pondicherry still retains the soul of French Colony and makes an excellent combination of past and present. As a resident of Cuddalore, I had to travel to Pondicherry for a better shopping, till I moved to Chennai. Today after a very long time I managed to visit Pondicherry beach and the Parks at the right time - in twilight. There were some major changes to the beach and the parks. There were four parks in arc forms that completed a circle. And in the middle part was the French structure that is in the official emblems of Pondicherry Government.

Now all the Parks were joined as a one big circular shaped park. They have been fenced beautifully, illuminated like a heaven thus providing a peaceful recreation in the evening. My friend was commenting that the park resembled a lot like one of the Abu Dhabi Parks. So beautiful and stylish is the park in its look.

Next change, the beach had been developed as artificial strolling beach. Previously there was a small beach with sand throughout its length. But in passage of time, the sea level rose and water started entering the road limits. So the government had piled up rocks across the beach to prevent it. Now they had increased the size of that safety wall structure, filled it with sand thus making like an artificial sea shore.

Pondicherry is a small town and the 'core' part of it that carries the French heritage is still more small, comprising of 2-3 streets and 1-2 kms stretch. The other attractions are Manakkula Vinayagar temple, Aurobindo Ashram and a Library near the beach Park.

Start so that you can reach Pondicherry by 4:00 PM sharply. Go to Manakkula Vinayagar temple first, then walk to the Aurobindo Ashram. You'll love the calmness and serenity of the place. Both the places can take a maximum of 1 hour, not more than that.

Then walk to the beach Park. Stroll there around for a while. Now the park had become big and nice one. Then take a walk to the beach road. Now the road is being limitted to only pedestrians. So you can take a long walk enjoying the roadside Panipuri, sundals and if you wish - an ice cream.

Today I visited Pondicherry to catch upon Rangasaai, my friend from EPD-DT AUH, where I worked previously. We had a nice walk to the beach and thats how I enjoyed the stroll in the beach and rediscovered the park. Pondicherry is so photogenic that had provided stunning visuals to many blockbusters like Jism, Swapnakoodu to name few.
