Shiney and Vidya BalanI and Priyan are at logger heads.... Hey! I am talking about the famous Bollywood director Priyadarshan, yes the same guy who is fondly called as Priyan by the stars. Priyan was the odd man of Malayalam film industry in late 80's. When others including his mentor Faazil concentrated on the story and emotions mainly, Priyan had a keen eye for visuals and technical finesse. So his movies had heroines from places beyond Vindhyas, stunning visuals that lacked soul sometimes. Now Priyadarshan is the hotshot director of Bollywood and is minting money by remaking old Malayalam classics. All of his Hindi movies are the remakes of old Malayalam movies and the latest one to be released is Bhool Bhulaiyaa - remake of eternal classic Manichitrathaazhu.

I can judge the fate of Priyan's movies by its promos. The stunning it looks, poorer its chances at the box office.

1. I was awestruck with the visuals of 'Saat Rang Ke Sapne' especially its teaser featuring the title track - Saat Rang Ke sapnon mein kho gayee sajana and thought it would be a sureshot winner. But it forever ended the career of Arvindswamy in Hindi.

2. The shot of basket ball flying on rain, shot for the promos of 'Doli Sajake Rakhna' is still fresh in my memories and I rate 'Kissa Hum Likhenge...' as one of the best song picturisations. I expected 'Doli..' to do extremely well just as its Malayalam and Tamil versions did, but the fate of Doli Sajake Rakhna is a history.

3. Kabhi Na Kabhi - The song 'Mere Dil Ka Woh Shehzaada' that sounded average in cassette looked stunning on screen with Priyan's touch. Anil Kapoor's career was looking up after a slump with three back to back hits like Viraasat, Judaai and Deewana Mastana, so I thought Kabhi Na Kabhi would do well at the ticket windows. Unfortunately this one of the two original Hindi movies made by Priyan was a disaster.

4. Kyon Ki - I saw the teaser song 'Kyon Ki Itna..' on TV only once as I was at Dubai during that time. I instantly fell in love with Kyonki.. even then I had an idea that it won't do well as Priyan is poor in building emotional forte.

Vidya Balan, Ameesha Patel
I was not in India when Hulchul, Garam Masala were released, so I didn't know about its promos and stills. But they were the hits that consolidated Priyan's position strongly.

I thought Hera Pheri, Hungama, Viraasat and Bhaagam Bhag would flop as they were either not so visually stunning (sparing Viraasat) or lacked the zing of original, but they all turned out to be super hits. Only exception is 'Chup Chup Ke..' which I didn't like the looks and the movie too flopped badly.

Yesterday I checked out the stills of Priyan's next release 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa' on Indiafm site. I was apprehensive about how it would look as the sbject needed a scary look. Sorry to say, I fell in love with those visuals. The looks of the movie is so rich and royal. Definitely post cardesque visuals are ensured through the lens of Thirru.

Shiney Ahujha, Vidya Balan, Akshay Kumar and Ameesha Patel looked royal & panache.

With my regards to its original 'Manichitra Thaazhu', I wish 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa' be an exception from my above mentioned list. Infact I am looking forward for it to watch Vidya Balan's magic on screen.
